Description
Photograph of a drawing depicting a view of Santa Clara Street in 1851, copied from an illustration published by the Bancroft Company of San Francisco, ca.1871. Two men on horseback are pictured to the right of the photo, one dressed in a suit and hat, the other in what appear to be arabesque clothing. Farther right, two- to three-story craftsman-style buildings can be seen lining the street while pedestrians linger on the sidewalk boards below. One of the the buildings flies an American flag from its roof. To the far right, the sign on a store appears to be written in Arabic or Hebrew. Similar buildings can be seen in the right distance. Picture file card reads "the Alameda" and identifies the publication of origin as being published in 1871.
