Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated March 14, 1961 reads, "A solution of algin-thickened water and algin gel, dropped by a helicopter upon a department-started fire at Valjean avenue [sic] and Runnymede street, was termed a success by fire officials. Algin is derived from kelp, the giant Pacific Ocean seaweed, and its scientific purpose is to 'hold water on fuel surfaces thus making fire fighting with water many times more effective.'"; See images #00114205 through #00114207 for all photos in this series.
