Begge har læreruddannelse og blev efter sprogskole ansat i undervisende og sociale opgaver, Inger Engsig-Karup bl. a. som skoleleder på Saraswatipur Kostskole og rådgiver for BLC, og Filip Engsig-Karup som leder af BLM-D og Lutheran Social Services (LSS) – med opgaver som gennem bl.a. landsbyskoleprogram og forskellige udviklingstiltag bragte dem i tæt kontakt med den lokale befolkning i området

Inger (and Filip) Engsig-Karup, sent by Danish Santal Mission to Bangladesh, 1982-96. Both trained as teachers were, following language studies, engaged in teaching and social jobs, Inger e.g. as the principal of Saraswatipur Boarding School and BLC consultant, and Filip as manager of BLM-D and Lutheran Social Services (LSS), including the Village School Program and various development activities - resulting in close contacts to local people of the area.
