Description
Note: "Nr. 35 - 38 [QC-30.016.0029-0032]. "(3. Quartalsbericht 06.10.1860: 4).
Note translation: Nos.35-38 [QC-30.016.0032]. Panoramic view of the landscape seen to the west from the mission garden on Nettur hill. On the extreme right the last picture shows a ruined fort destroyed by Sultan Tippu. Further to the left there is a large banyan tree which forms a grove in which an unimportant temple is situated. The street in the foreground leads through the mission compound and down the hill. On the hill terraces have been made on which little palm trees and banana trees have been planted. On the third picture you see in the foreground the gate which shuts off the mission compound. The road leads further through the trees and then goes past rice fields until it reaches the bridge (photograph 33) after which it comes to the town, about 2 miles away. In the background the horizon is actually the sea. The building on the extreme left of picture 4 is the lithographical institution and printing press. The view here is unusually beautiful so it is not surprising that evening after evening the missionaries sit in the garden, with the cool sea breeze playing around them, and never tire of looking at the beauty before them, while the sun dips down like a red ball into the sea." (C.G. Richter's Quarterly report d. 6. 10. 1860: 4).
