Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. When this interview was conducted Myron (Pete) Petersen was a Civil Engineer out of the Caltrans District 3 office in Marysville, CA. After the earthquake Petersen was contacted by Traffic Operations in Sacramento to report to the Caltrans San Leandro Maintenance Station. Along with other Caltrans employees he traveled with trailers, Changeable Message Signs and a Highway Advisory Radio truck. From October 18th to October 31st he traveled all over Bay Area Highways with the Changeable Message Signs to warn motorists of current driving conditions.
