Description
This circa 1929 view from the northern edge of Southside Park reveals the idyllic. The City went to great lengths to ensure the lushness of the park's flora. In the spring of 1910 more than four thousand feet of lateral pipes were laid in concert with sixty hydrants to feed the virgin grass and roughly 300 trees that covered eight city blocks. A few years after this photograph was taken, in 1934, the Robert E. Callahan Memorial Bandstand and Outdoor Theater would be constructed in the right foreground.
