Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated December 22, 1960 partially reads, "Like most women, Gladys Young finds Christmas her busiest time of the year. Unlike most, however, Gladys is not busy with last minute shopping, but with last minute shoplifters. Gladys is the only woman investigator in the detective bureau of the Los Angeles Police Department...Gladys who now works in partnership on shoplifting with Sgt. J. W. Wood, has been a policewoman since 1944. She first became interested in the work while a secretary for the FBI. After spending one year doing jail duty and juvenile work, she was transfered to the detective bureau. During the past 15 years she has dealt with thousands of shoplifters in Los Angeles."
