Description
1989-1309. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 43. A corner view of a street with houses, cheek to jowl; a utility pole is at the corner; on each side of the corner the trunks of trees rise up out of the photo; a large house sits on the corner; the entrance is to the right of the corner with steps leading to a porch; the porch roof is supported by a wall with 3 squat, square pillars which support two squat colums; the house has 2 floors and a basement; it is difficult on the street to determine where one house ends and the next one begins; on the right side of the corner are parked two cars. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Houses torn down early in 1937. '1018 N street, residence of F. Knauer, in 1899."
