Description
Two vehicles are parked at the curb in front of a large, brick, two story building. The building has Asian architectural elements on the roof and facade. At ground level is the S.P. Depot Market (310 I Street) with plate glass store front and double swinging doors for the entrance. Over this, however, the Hong King Lum Cafe (306 I Street) sign is very large, written in stylized English letters with Asian characters below. The balcony is done in decorative ironwork and an entrance to the restaurant, which is next to the market, is surrounded by a large decorative facade which suggests Asian design. An awning-covered door invites entrance into the upstairs restaurant. Signs advertising Liquors and Schlitz Beer adorn the windows on the first story. This section of I Street made way for freeway on-ramps and a parking garage in the 1960s.
