Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
The Treaty of Cahuenga was signed between Lieutenant Colonel John C. Fremont and General Andres Pico on January 13, 1847, at Tomas Felix' six-room adobe farmhouse here, and ended hostilities in California between Mexico and the United Stated. The result brought nearly a half-million acres of land under the United States' jurisdiction. The Recreation and Park Department-operated facility shown here is a replica of the casa where the treaty was signed. Located at 3919 Lankershim Boulevard, Campo de Cahuenga is registered on the National Register of Historic Places, #72001602. It is also designated California Historical Landmark #51 as well as City of Los Angeles City Historical Monument #29.
Caption reads, "This is Campo de Cahuenga as it is today, turned into a Spanish garden, preserved in memory of the men who fought the battle of Los Angeles, culminating in Pico's capitulation to Fremont there Jan. 16, 1847. Photo dated: January 16, 1928.
