Description
The SRI Radio Telescope in Palo Alto, produced this magnetic tape recording of the Sputnik satellite in 1957. The tape itself is a product of Ampex, a local Redwood City company. A label on the tape reads, "Recorded at the Stanford Dish by George Durfey - Sputnik)." Five audio tracks. Parts four and five include voice at intervals, stating time and elevation, presumably of the satellite. Tracks 1-3 are very faint and consist only of machine-readable code.
