Photograph caption reads: "Some of the group of dozens of black community leaders who denounced media handling of the Bradley affair ". Mayor Tom Bradley was being investigated by the Los Angeles City Council and other governmental bodies to determine if he had exerted improper influence to assist a bank that had paid him a consulting fee. The mayor steadfastly maintained that he had not done so. The bank had paid him $18,000 in advisory fees. Bradley has said that after learning the city was doing business with Far East National Bank, he returned the money and resigned his position.
