Description
These recordings are of an interview with Hannah H. Templeton that took place in 1982. She arrived in Ontario, California in 1901 and went on to work for the Pacific Electric Company, Hotpoint, and later General Electric. Her father worked for the San Antonio Water Company. Templeton was born in 1891 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. She and her family moved to Ontario because her uncle had lived there and encouraged her father to find employment in the area. Templeton describes her first job at a cannery. The interview includes a description of her daily life in Ontario during her childhood. Templeton reflects upon a summer that she lived in a tent with her family while her father worked for the San Antonio Water Company. In addition, the interview discusses how the family bought groceries. Templeton describes her work at Hotpoint and the company’s location in Ontario. She also reflects on her time as a receptionist, as well as her friend Clara Price. Templeton recounts her 1924 wedding and a trip that she and her husband took after the wedding. Templeton goes on to discuss her childhood and where she went to school, as well as the distance she would walk from the tent that they were living in. She shares that in 1903, the family moved to a barn. She also talks about the wind and the dust it produced in 1933. The interview concludes with a discussion of Templeton’s family.
