Governor Oren Long of Hawaii before he boarded Pan American Airways for Hawaii. Returning from Statehood hearings in Washington, D.C., Long branded Senator Connally of Texas, outspoken foe of Hawaiian statehood, as being 'out of the 19th century in his political philosophy with a viewpoint contrary to everything in our democratic institutions'".
