Description
Photograph of Los Angeles' first high school on Poundcake Hill, looking north from the Nadeau Hotel, ca.1884. The picture is framed in an oval circumscription. The tree-covered hill with the school on it is in the background, rising above the residential neighborhood in the foreground. The buildings in this neighborhood are mostly small houses, although there is a moderately large brick building at right. There is a grocery cart in the yard of one of the houses. The school is a two story brick structure with a cupola on top.
