Description
George Takahashi Optometry at 1200 K St. is shown in this circa-1950 photo. Takahashi was a first-generation Japanese American, or Nisei, born in California to a family of 11 children. His brothers, Henry, William and Ernest, were also physicians, and his son, Gordon, went on to become a doctor. Just beyond Takahashi’s, at 328 L St. is the empty marquee of the Alameda Theater. To the far right in the photograph, L Street runs toward the riverfront.
