Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on May 16, 1965 states: "Most of these building along Mill Street in Grass Valley, Nevada County, are still in use although many on the left were damaged in disastrous fires over the years. This photo from the postcard collection of Charles Rohrer of 2252 Arliss Way was taken, oldtimers believe, on July 4, 1909, judging from the Sunday best outfits and the festive balloons. The tracks, long since gone, were used by the Nevada County Traction Company on its electric line connecting Grass valley and Nevada City, four miles to the north. The line was in operation from 1904 to 1924. . . ."
