The Civil Air Patrol is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF). CAP is a volunteer organization with membership that includes people from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and occupations. It performs three key functions: emergency services, which includes search and rescue (by air and ground) and disaster relief operations; aerospace education for youth and the general public; and cadet programs for teenage youth. Photograph caption dated April 28, 1961 reads "Pilot, plotter plan search pattern. J. W. Quinn, left, with D. W. Sifferman, both of North Hollywood." CAP, the Civil Air Patrol, works with the Federal Aviation Agency to search for lost airplanes. Two men were reported missing flying from Bakersfield to Hawthorne on a Tuesday night.
