This was the precursor of Vizetelly's more famous work, "A History of Champagne with Notes on the Other Sparkling Wines of France." Cf. Gabler, p. 291. The text includes a history of Champagne and its process of making sparkling wine. Vizetelly also includes information on other sparkling wines of France, such as Saumur and Sauterne, as well as the sparkling wines of Germany , Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Russia and the United States.
