Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. At the time of the earthquake, Jerry Hammond and Michael Terry were Maintenance Supervisors for Caltrans at the Ettie Street Yard. In the is interview they talk about the earthquake damage that they witnessed at the Ettie Street Yard, Cypress Structure and Highway 80 between Ashby and the Toll Plaza. These men supervised the crews who did the ramp closures and pavement repairs on Highway 80 from Ashby to the toll plaza, the connector ramp from westbound 580 to eastbound 80, eastbound 580 over San Pablo, bridge departures and approaches between San Pablo and Market; and southbound 13 at 580 structure.
