Two men lead a team of oxen, pulling a carreta full of women wearing old Western costume, to the bottom of the steps of Los Angeles City Hall to celebrate the centennial of the first raising of the American flag in Los Angeles; the women are identified as: Blanche Taylor, Marilyn Simmons, Maria Cain, and MaryAnn Baird. The oxen and carreta traveled for three days from San Pedro, following the route that Commodore Robert F. Stockton made. Twenty-five thousand people attended the event.
