Description
Photograph is an image of the vessels Velero III [left] and Velero II [right], owned by Allan Hancock. Velero II was built in 1922, while Velero III was built in 1931. Both were built to Hancock's specifications, and employed in oceanographic research in the Pacific. During World War II, Velero III was used as a patrol vessel by the U.S. Navy. After the war, it was purchased by the American Independent Oil Company and converted into a luxury cruiser for the Sheik of Kuwait.
