Photograph was edited for publication purposes. In May 12, 1944, then 17-year-old Barbara Adams killed her mother. She claimed to have done so because her mother did not allow her to have dates or association with other young people. Adams was diagnosed "medically and legally insane" by Camarillo State Hospital psychiatrists. Public defender, William G.
