Plates in: Vischer's views of California : the mammoth tree grove, Calaveras County, California, and its avenues ; consisting of title page and 12 plates with 25 engravings. Plate II, The Mammoth Grove. Typographical work by Agnew & Deffebach, San Franciso. L. Nagel, printer. C.C. Kuchel, lithographer. Shows redwoods, oxen-drawn wagon, horse-drawn carriage, men on horseback. Various buildings, including dance pavilion built on top of stump of Discovery Tree. 2010-3777. Discovered in 1852 by Augustus T. Dowd, area became a state park in 1931 - Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
