Description
Can label for "White Cling Peaches, Cutting Packing Co., San Francisco, Cal." Shows the Cutting Packing trademark at left, a griffin with body of a lion and head of an eagle, with the phrase, "No goods genuine unless bearing this trademark and signature." Cannery buildings shown at right. Francis Cutting founded the company in San Francisco in 1858, the first industrial canning enterprise in California. Cutting Packing Company joined the California Fruit Canners Association in 1899. In 1916 the Association joined with Central California Canneries, Griffen & Skelley, and the J. K. Armsby Company to become the California Packing Corporation. California Packing Corp. sold its products under a number of proprietary and distributive labels, including their premium brand, Del Monte. In June 1967, the company name was officially changed to the Del Monte Corporation.
