Bust-length portrait of H.G. Morse in naval uniform of jacket and cap. "Will power is the strength H.G. Morse, S.S. Alameda, April 7th /93. To his little she 1/2 mate Mrs. Longley" -- handwritten on back. Below inscription is "Master of S.S. Alameda, Res. Palace Hotel S.F."
H.G. Morse was captain of the mail steamship, Alameda, of the Oceanic Steamship Company belonging to Spreckels. In 1885, involved in race between Alameda and Zealandia from San Francisco to Australia.
