Class picture at The Mission San Jose Grammar School in 1886, (S/W). Original, vintage (other dates noted 1882, 1884. 1886) (Sunderer photo). 'The Mission San Jose Grammar School, 1886. Seated: Florence Bergman, (Mrs. W. W. Walton of Centerville), Edith Bergman of Fresno, Theodore Bergman, all children of Nicholas Bergman, blacksmith and wagon manufacturer of the '60's; Mary Nolan (Mrs. Ed Steinmetz of Mission San Jose), Lex, Mattie and Alfred Ehrman, children of Sol Ehrman who had a general merchandise store, 'Ehrman and Bachman', in the early '60's; Bessie, Maude and Jim Stanley Jr., children of James Stanley, early-day blacksmith and public administrator; second from left, standing at front: Rosie Sunderer, too young to be in school but who came just to have her picture made, Katie Murphy, Mrs. Frank Beck of Oakland; Julie Murphy, the late Mrs. Candy Bernal whose husband was a pioneer butcher at Mission San Jose.'
