Description
Nisei male, born February 1, 1918 in Salinas, California. His mother was widowed when Shuki was seven years old and she raised six young children as a cook in a Japanese labor camp. Shuki was the major wage earner for the family as a high school student. Shuki�s family was evacuated to Poston, Arizona when he was twenty-four years old. He taught physics and math at the camp high school. He volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and served in Europe. His brother also served in Europe and was killed in action. In 1946 he married Marian Lind, a Quaker who supervised the pre-school education program at Poston. Shuki obtained his Ph.D. in physics and held several research positions including the Manhattan Project and Donner Laboratory of Medical Physics at the University of California, Berkeley. He also held Professorships in Physics at University of C. Davis, and California State University, Sacramento (CSUS).
