Description
Sitting on the northeast corner of Eleventh and H Streets is one section of the 85-unit Capitol Travelodge, pictured here in circa 1960. Opened in 1957, the motel survived a bomb scare in 1977, but could not escape sale and a 6 million dollar renovation, in 2007/08, into a retro-style lodge, offering nearly 50 "work/live" spaces. To add an element of nostalgia to the new property, the two wings were named "Astro" and "Elroy," characters from the 1960s era cartoon, "The Jetsons." The printed description on the back of this card reads, "Very quiet, 2 blocks from business center, 5 blocks from the Capitol...TV and stereophonic music, free coffee..."
