The Adobe de Palomares was the ranch home of Don Ygnacio Palomares and his wife Don~a Concepcio´n Lo´pez de Palomares. Built from 1850 to 1854, the 13-room home had canvas cloth ceilings and a shake roof and became known as the "House of Hospitality" due to the generosity and hospitality of the homeowners. Don Ygnacio was one of the first Pomona Valley settlers in 1837 and owned, along with the Vejar family, the Rancho San Jose, which covered eastern Los Angeles County.
