The fifth man from the left supports himself using a cane in his right hand. The man at center dons a long white beard and holds one end of a piece of paper while two men to the right assist in discerning what is written or pictured on the document. In the background, the dome of the observatory with its lightly colored panels is visible above. To the top left, a tree obstructs the view of the observatory.
