Photograph of a large group of more than 30 men working on a new headgate on the Colorado River, ca.1905, for water control on the Imperial Canal. Assisted by several teams of horses, the men excavate some areas and build up others. Tracks have been laid for moving small rail cars around the site. Higher up, several small structures stand, including buildings, generators, tents, supply sheds, etc.
