This audio recording captures the May 25, 1973 dedication ceremony of the UC Davis Library to Peter J. Shields, a Superior Court Judge in Sacramento, California. Shields (1862-1962), often referred to as one of the founding fathers of the University Farm, (now the University of California, Davis), helped to write the legislation for the creation of the Davis campus. The ceremony featured remarks by University Librarian J.R. Blanchard, Chancellor James Meyer, Knowles Ryerson, and Thomas MacBride.
