Description
Photograph of head chemist Harvey Bennet in the Los Angeles Soap Company chemistry laboratory, 1887. Harvey Bennett, head chemist, and other chemists and laboratory technicians can be seen working in the laboratory of the Los Angeles Soap Company. Mr. Bennett can be seen in the right foreground, sitting at a desk, writing in a laboratory notebook. A technician can be seen behind Mr. Bennet, holding a spoon and glass jar at the laboratory bench. The laboratory bench stands adjacent to all three walls pictured in the photograph. Two chemists can be seen in the right background, one next to a fume hood, and another leaning over the bench, writing in a notebook. A fourth laboratory worker can be seen working at the bench at far left, and he appears to be performing a titration experiment. A table can be seen in the center of the room, to Mr. Bennet's right, and a weighing scale can be seen on the tabletop, as well as numerous bottles of chemical solutions.
