Description
This is a view of the first bridge constructed across the Sacramento River in 1857 near the site of the I Street bridge. The tower at the extreme right of the picture is believed to be the center of the swing span, which rotated to permit the passage of river vessels. This bridge was dismantled following the completion of the first railroad bridge across the Sacramento River in the 1860s.
