Mayan women and children celebrate Christmas in the refugee camp of Santiago el Vértice, Chiapas. In November 1982 Guatemalan civil patrolmen and soldiers crossed the border to attack the camp. In January 1983, another Guatemaln attack left two refugees dead and destroyed the camp. After this second attack part of the population of the refugee camp of Santiago el Vértice resettled near the border settlement of Carmen Xhan. Mujeres y niños mayas celebran la Navidad en el campamento de refugiados de Santiago el Vértice, Chiapas. En noviembre de 1982, patrulleros civiles y soldados guatemaltecos cruzaron la frontera para atacar el campamento. En enero de 1983, otro ataque de guatemaltecos dejó a dos refugiados muertos y destruyó el campamento. Después de este segundo ataque, parte de la población del campamento de refugiados de Santiago el Vértice se reubicó cerca del asentamiento fronterizo de Carmen Xhan.
