Photograph caption dated July 13, 1960 reads, "Michael Walsh, 78, Yukon pioneer is life-long Democrat who never voted in presidential election. He couldn't 'til Alaska became a state. His wife, Louise, 72, right believed to be the earliest white woman settler in Nome." The couple married in 1909. He was a gold miner and mining consultant.
