Description
The finish of the Women's Dipsea Hike at Willow Camp (later renamed Stinson Beach). Written on front of photo: "Finish of Girls Race Willow Camp May 15, 1921." The race was officially called a "hike" to escape the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) ban on women's long-distance races. Unlike many similar photos in this series, a "hiker" may be seen sprinting towards the finish line.
