Description
601 S Myrtle. "One of the most substantial institutions of Monrovia is the First National Bank. In July next it will have been established ten years. Its paid up capital stock is $50,000, and its surplus, $10,000; while its deposits and loans amount to about $85,000 each. It numbers among its stockholders some of the substantial men of the country. Its officers are J.H.Bartle, president; J.F.Sartori, vice-president; W.A.Chess, cashier, and Kirk E.Lawrence, teller. Among the stockholders may be named I.W. Hellman, president of the Nevada Bank of San Francisco; H.W.Hellman, vice-president of the Farmers and Merchants Bank, Los Angeles; T.L. Duque, president of the Main Street Savings Bank and Trust Company, Los Angeles; J.F.Sartori, president of the Security Savings Bank and Trust Company, Los Angeles; estate of L.L. Bradbury, besides a number of local gentlemen of means. Since its inception the First National has been remarkably successful, and has always enjoyed the confidence of the citizens. Mr.Bartle, the president, has been with the institution since 1888, commencing as assistant cashier, and working his way up to the office of president, and it is largely due to his careful administration that the Bank has been so successful."
