"Farmer Coetzee, Br. Schmidt, Marx, Weber." ("Farmer Coetzee, Br[other] Schmidt, Marx, Weber."). The picture shows four men of European origin in front of a fence and a house. All men wear hats. Two men wear light colored coats, another a dark colored coat and the fourth man a dark colored suit. He has a walking cane in his right hand. Except for him all wear glasses. Written on the card board: "Br. Baudert 1930." ("Br[other] Baudert 1930."). Under the picture written on the card board with pencil from left to right the names of the men: Marx/ Schmidt/ Farmer/ Weber. The picture probably shows Karl Theodor Weber (1886-1962), Louis Rudolf Schmidt (1872-1963) and Richard Johannes Marx (1866-1958). Marx was a missionary in South Africa East and West from 1893 to 1934. Weber was a missionary in Pella from 1938 to 1956. Schmidt was a missionary in Genadendal from 1902 to 1949. -- The picture was probably taken by Samuel Baudert (1879-1956), born as son of the missionary Samuel Baudert in South Africa. He was the mission director of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1924 to 1927 and since 1929 their bishop. It might also be possible that the picture was taken by Eugen Theodor Baudert (1876-1953) who worked as a lecturer at the theological seminar in Mvenyane.
