Original photograph has several vertical lines across the picture. Photograph caption dated April 16, 1963 reads "Firemen hose down Sepulveda Blvd. after a high-pressure gas line ruptured near the intersection of Sepulveda and Dickens St. in Sherman Oaks. Traffic had to be detoured for 11 hours before the line was repaired at 4:10 a.m. today. Police said a contractor's digging operations apparently caused the split in the gas line. About a mile section of the line had to be cleared of fumes after valves were shut off so the breaks could be welded safely."
