Susan Straight discusses her novel, “The Gettin Place.” She begins by explaining that she uses the same characters in other books she has written such as, “I’ve Been In Sorrow’s Kitchen and Licked Out All the Pots,” and “Blacker Than a Thousand Midnights.” She talks about how she wanted to create a mystery about family ties and land ownership. She describes that the book is told from seven different points of view. Straight talks about how she spoke with prisoners in a federal correction institute to get ideas for the book. Martinson asks Straight to read a passage about the three generations of men.
