Annotation translation: "Too often we find after going over hills that, in a level valley, swamps [bar our way]. In the rainy season, when heavy downpours go on for days and even weeks, whole districts are under water. And then the poor traveller has no choice. He must find his way through floods and marshes." Annotation: "Nur allzuoft geht es bald nach einer Bergtour hinunter ins flache Tal durch Morast & Sumpf. In der Regenzeit, in der es oft wochenlang jeden Tag schüttet, sind ganze Gegenden unter Wasser. Da bleibt den armen Reisenden kein Ausweg mehr, sie müssen durch Wasser & Sumpf hindurch."
