A Mayan girl sits on a log in the refugee camp in Chajul, Chiapas. In May 1984 refugees from the Chajul settlement fled and hid in the Lacandón jungle when Mexican newspapers headlined that the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Bartlett Díaz, decided to relocate the approximately 46,000 Guatemalans from Chiapas to Campechgle. Cuando en mayo de 1984, los periódicos mexicanos rportaban que el secretario de gobernación, Manuel Bartlett Díaz, decidió reubicar a los aproximadamente 46,000 guatemaltecos de Chiapas a Campeche, los refugiados del asentamiento de Chajul huyeron y se escondieron en la Selva Lacandona.
