Description
Photograph shows the exterior facade of the mission church at Mission Santa Clara. Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded in 1777. The current location in Santa Clara is the fifth site of the Mission; work began on this site in 1822 and the church was dedicated in 1825. In 1861 the adobe facade of the church was overlaid with an Italianate Victorian facade. This church was destroyed by fire in October 1926. It was rebuilt on the same site and consecrated in 1929.
