Anna Cox was born in 1887 in College Park, Calif. She graduated with a Ph.D from Stanford University in 1917, studied at the American School of Archaeology and Classical Studies in Rome. She became a Professor of Archaeology, Convener of the School of Fine Arts and Dean of the Faculty at Mills College. In 1936, Anna and her husband, Howard, were appointed directors of Pendle Hill, a Quaker college in Pennsyslvania. An active Quaker, Anna became a minister of the Society of Friends in 1928, was involved in numerous Quaker organizations over the years - AFSC Commissioner to Asia, gave two years service in Japan in charge of two of post-war relief in two centers in Tokyo. She died in 1969.
