Photograph caption dated September 24, 1959 reads, "Short Step to College -- U. S. Grant High School, newly built on grounds of Valley College at 13800 Oxnard St., opened this fall to bring students nearer to higher learning both academically and geographically. New high school absorbs parts of both North Hollywood and Van Nuys High Schools' former districts, and will house students on part of grounds formerly set aside for Valley College."
