Photograph was edited for publication purposes; Photograph was also used for an article dated December 7, 1962. Photograph caption dated October 22, 1962 reads, "A Republican, a conservative, a Birch member." The article partially reads, "Since the 1960 election, Valley Congressman Edgar W. 'Eck' Hiestand has become a national figure. And if he is defeated on Nov. 6 by Democrat Everett G. Burkhalter, his new eminence will be partly to blame. For in the spring of 1961, when newspapers across the country were examining with curiosity the strange and submerged John Birch Society, Eck Hiestand told his colleagues forthrightly that he was a Birch member."
