Photograph caption dated September 17, 1957 reads, "Dr. Howard S. McDonald, president of Los Angeles State College, welcomes Barbara Lutomski, 18, of Sun Valley, one of 200 students entering first freshman class at Valley campus in Northridge. College, opened last September for junior and seniors only, will eventually be four-year school, also offering graduate work."
