Photograph caption dated January 28, 1962 reads, "Mrs. Mel Smith of Quartz Hill, near Lancaster, gives special care to her favorite cactus plants which are still living in snow from last week's snowstorm. Her family and its garden were temporarily snowbound by the storm."
